Residential Moving Tips
Maximize Efficiency
Ensure an efficient move by organizing and preparing ahead of time. Move lamps, lampshades, pictures, hanging clothes, plants, electronic equipment, liquids, and flammables prior to our arrival. Label all boxes and reserve the elevator or parking if necessary.
Good Packing Job
Not only does good packing protect your belongings, it also makes moving into your new home much easier. Pack all items into boxes since it is the safest way to transport, and make sure to label all boxes with felt-tip markers and include room destination. Plan the layout of your new home to save valuable time on move day.
Special Items
Some awkward or large pieces must be disassembled prior to moving. Clothing will be removed by our crews and hung in wardrobe boxes, with boxes available for rental. Dressers and furniture must be emptied, except for hanging clothing. All aquariums must be emptied and propane tanks cannot be transported on gas grills.
Avoidable Issues
Troy's Moving & Storage is not liable for unboxed lamps, lampshades, artwork, pictures, mirrors, plants, or flat screen TVs. Electronic equipment and file cabinets must be emptied and disconnected, studied packing must be used for flat screen TVs. Plates and perishables must be packed by move day, and gasoline and propane must be drained according to code.

3. On Moving Day
Essential Box
Pack an “open first” box with essentials for your first night, including toiletries, a change of clothes, and snacks. This will save you from rummaging through boxes after a long day.
Safety Precautions
Keep pathways clear to avoid accidents. If you have pets, ensure they’re secured in a safe area or consider a pet-sitting service for the day.

Before leaving, do a final walkthrough of your old home to ensure nothing is forgotten. Check all windows and doors are locked and appliances turned off.
